What is RadioFrequency?
Radiofrequency (RF) treatments involve the use of a RF hand held energy device to heat up and tighten tissue to boost blood flow and break down cellulite and fat. The radiofrequency energy heats the skin without damaging it, in order to break down fatty cells and stimulate collagen production, which improves skin tone and elasticity.

The ideal candidate for RF face and body treatments is someone who is generally fit and healthy. RF body treatments are not weight loss procedures but can significantly improve the shape of your body, your skin tone and the appearance of cellulite. Your therapist will evaluate your suitability for 3D Lipo treatments at the consultation stage and recommend a suitable course of treatment.
RF is suitable for the face and body and can be used to treat excess pockets of fat on areas including the arms, stomach, hips and thighs, reduce cellulite and tighten saggy skin caused by age, weight loss or pregnancy.
The treatment, when performed by a qualified technician is very safe and has minimal downtime.
Risks and complications of RF treatments for the body are extremely rare. You may experience some redness and swelling and on occasion some bruising post treatment but all of these side effects are temporary. You may find you need to go to the toilet more after having some types of RF treatment, as they stimulate lymphatic drainage and the broken down fat cells are metabolised through the liver and excreted in your urine. Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids to help your body to flush out this material. The most serious risk of RF treatment is getting burnt by the device but this is extremely rare and should not happen in the hands of an experienced practitioner. All of The FAB Practice technicians are fully trained and certified by 3D Lipo HQ to perform the RF treatments.
The cost of RF will vary depending on the size and condition of the area being treated, however prices per session start at £60. You will be given a quote for treatment at your consultation and in a written treatment plan.
Before you undergo treatment you will need to have a consultation with a Cosmetic Therapist. During your consultation your Therapist will explain the procedure fully and ask for your medical history to determine whether there are any reasons why you shouldn’t undertake this treatment. You will be asked to sign a consent form which means that you have understood the potential benefits and risks associated with the procedure. Careful discussions regarding your reasons for wanting treatment are very important before you begin your treatment. You must also make sure that this treatment can deliver what you want and how you would like to look afterwards. Your Therapist should be able to answer all these questions.
Photographs may also be taken by your therapist for a “before and after” comparison at a later date.
A course of treatments is usually recommended to achieve the best results although you may see improvement from the first treatment. The amount of treatments you will need will again depend on the desired results. You should expect to need between six to ten treatments, once per week. In older persons we recommend leaving a 10 day to 2 week gap between appointments to allow collagen to regenerate. Your Therapist will advise.
As the treatment is carried out you will experience brief, deep heating sensations when energy is delivered to your skin and underlying tissue. As each person’s pain tolerance and threshold varies, it is difficult to quantify how painful or uncomfortable the treatment is. In some cases a topical anaesthetic cream may be applied prior to treatment to minimise discomfort. Some women find that their skin is more sensitive before and during their menstrual cycle so you might want to take this into consideration when scheduling your treatment appointment(s).
Your practitioner will mark out the area being treated to give them guidance. A gel is then applied to the treatment area. The 3D RF hand piece will then be run over your problem area delivering energy deep into the tissue to break down fat cells and stimulate collagen production. A cooling gel or pack will be applied after treatment.
Facial RF lasts between 20 to 30 minutes and body RF for up to 15 minutes following cavitation.
